ENGINE IDENTIFICATION
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is stamped on a metal
plate located at upper left corner of instrument panel, near
windshield. The eighth character of VIN identifies engine, and tenth
character identifies model year ("V" for 1997; "W" for 1998). Engine
model code and serial number are stamped on right front side of
cylinder block.

ADJUSTMENTS
VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT
Hydraulic lash adjusters are used. Valve adjustment is not
required.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
* PLEASE READ THIS FIRST *
CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory
systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may
exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle.
NOTE: For reassembly reference, label all electrical connectors,
vacuum hoses and fuel lines before removal. Also place
mating marks on engine hood and other major assemblies
before removal.
FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE
Remove rear seat cushion and raise carpet. Disconnect fuel
pump connector near fuel tank. Start engine, and allow to idle until
engine stalls. Turn ignition off. Reconnect fuel pump connector.
Disconnect negative battery cable before disconnecting fuel lines.
