TIMING CHAIN
Revision: 2005 August 2005 350Z
? Refer to GI-10, "Components" for symbol mark in the figure.
NOTE:
? This section describes procedures for removing/installing front timing chain case and timing chain related
parts, and rear timing chain case, when oil pan (upper) needs to be removed/installed for engine overhaul,
etc.
? To remove/install front timing chain case, timing chain, and its related parts without removing oil pan
(upper), refer to EM-47, "
FRONT TIMING CHAIN CASE" .
REMOVAL
1. Remove engine cover with power tool. Refer to EM-18, "INTAKE MANIFOLD COLLECTOR" .
2. Remove air cleaner case assembly. Refer to EM-16, "
AIR CLEANER AND AIR DUCT" .
3. Remove undercover with power tool.
4. Release the fuel pressure. Refer to EC-94, "
FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE" .
5. Disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal.
6. Drain engine coolant from radiator. Refer to CO-10, "
Changing Engine Coolant" .
CAUTION:
? Perform this step when engine is cold.
? Do not spill engine coolant on drive belts.
7. Drain engine oil. Refer to LU-10, "
Changing Engine Oil" .
CAUTION:
? Perform this step when engine is cold.
? Do not spill engine oil on drive belts.
8. Separate engine harnesses removing their brackets from front timing chain case.
9. Remove intake manifold collectors (upper and lower). Refer to EM-18, "
INTAKE MANIFOLD COLLEC-
TOR" .
10. Remove radiator cooling fan assembly. Refer to CO-21, "
COOLING FAN" .
11. Remove drive belts. Refer to EM-14, "
DRIVE BELTS" .
12. Remove A/C compressor from bracket with piping connected, and temporarily secure it aside. Refer to
ATC-129, "
Components" .
13. Remove power steering oil pump from bracket with piping connected, and temporarily secure it aside.
Refer to PS-29, "
POWER STEERING OIL PUMP" .
14. Remove power steering oil pump bracket. Refer to PS-29, "
POWER STEERING OIL PUMP" .
15. Remove alternator. Refer to SC-21, "
CHARGING SYSTEM" .
16. Remove water bypass hose, water hose clamp and idler pulley bracket from front timing chain case.
17. Remove left and right valve timing control covers (including magnet retarder and cover) with the following
procedure.
1. O-ring 2. Timing chain tensioner (secondary) 3. Internal chain guide
4. Timing chain tensioner (secondary) 5. Camshaft sprocket (EXH) 6. Timing chain (secondary)
7. Timing chain (primary) 8. Camshaft sprocket (INT) 9. Slack guide
10. Timing chain tensioner (primary) 11. Crankshaft sprocket 12. Camshaft sprocket (INT)
13. Timing chain (secondary) 14. Camshaft sprocket (EXH) 15. O-ring
16. Rear timing chain case 17. Tension guide 18. Water drain plug (Front)
19. O-ring 20. O-ring 21. Bracket
22. Bracket 23. Clip 24. Bracket
